RENO — The Safety Consultation and Training Section (SCATS) of Nevada’s Division of Industrial Relations has recognized Tamarack Junction Casino & Restaurant for its successful completion of the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP).

The no-cost SHARP program is helps employers develop and implement safety and health programs. SHARP helps businesses improve their return on investment, be in compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and create added value by reducing accident costs.

This is the third time Tamarack Junction Casino & Restaurant has received its SHARP certification.

“We think SHARP is an outstanding program,” General Manager Casey Sullivan said. “The Tamarack participates because we believe safety is not only for our guests but also our team members; it’s our philosophy.”

Sullivan said the SHARP program is a good way for businesses to get employees involved in workplace safety. He added that employees are the front line of safety and can see things managers might not, which is why SHARP is an important safety training tool.

“It benefits everyone,” Sullivan said. “Our employees get a better understanding of safety and how everything affects the safety of the Tamarack and it makes it a better place to work. It cuts down on injuries, which goes with the Tamarack’s philosophy of looking for things that are unsafe and fixing them before something happens.”

The Tamarack Junction Casino & Restaurant opened in September 2001. Since then, it has expanded to three times the original size.

Businesses interested in the SHARP program can contact SCATS at 824-4630. For more information on SCATS, or for a schedule of training courses offered at no charge, call toll free 877-4SAFENV or visit www.4safenv.state.nv.us.
