In the opener, Reno starter Wade Miley held the River Cats to just 2 earned runs over 5.1 innings before Kam Mickolio came on and retired Sacramento’s final five batters. Cowgill’s lone hit of the game snapped a 2-2 tie and pushed Reno to the victory. Mickolio (1-2) earned his first win of the season, striking out three and stranding two inherited runners in the sixth. Sacramento’s Fernando Cabrera (3-3) took the loss.
In game two, Reno erased a one-run deficit in the sixth on an infield single by Robby Hammock. With one out and a runner on third in the frame, Mark Hallberg flew out to right and Andy Tracy was thrown out at the plate trying to tag up from third—prompting an argument and subsequent ejection of Aces skipper Brett Butler. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Kouzmanoff hit a 1-0 Jordan Norberto (6-2) offering over the wall in centerfield for the game winner. River Cats reliever Trystan Magnuson (4-2) earned the win.
