RENO – The most-mentioned issue affecting businesses in the Greater Reno-Tahoe region is finding skilled workers, according to a survey of Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) member companies.
Local companies will have a chance to hear from experts from the region’s higher education system on the best ways to recruit college graduates and how to navigate educational institutions when looking to hire skilled positions during the Business BUZZ economic forum, scheduled for 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 11 at the new William N. Pennington Health Sciences Building at the University of Nevada, Reno, Atrium and Lecture Hall #102.
The program, titled “Connecting Northern Nevada’s Companies to Its Largest Skilled Workforce Pool,” will feature a panel of recruitment experts from the Career College of Northern Nevada, Morrison University, Truckee Meadows Community College, University of Nevada, Reno, University of Phoenix’s Northern Nevada Campus and Western Nevada College.
Lorna Shepard, president of Red Dog Consulting, will moderate a panel discussion. Additionally, local companies will be on hand to share their success stories recruiting from the area’s universities and colleges, and discuss examples of internship and apprenticeship programs that have benefited their companies.
Tours of the William N. Pennington Health Sciences Building will be provided following the forum. The new facility will contribute to improved quality of health care in Nevada and help address Nevada’s shortage of doctors and nurses. The facility opens to classes in the fall, where future doctors and nurses will train side-by-side.
The Business BUZZ is $15 for EDAWN and Northern Nevada Chamber of Commerce and Reno Sparks Chamber of Commerce members, or $25 for non-members and includes a continental breakfast. RSVP to Meghan Wagonseller at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 829-3768. For more information, visit www.edawn.org.
