Man sought for sexual assault

SPARKS — Police are asking for the public’s help locating 23-year-old Marquis Lavor Dewitt on suspicion of sexual assault.

On July 11, the Sparks Police Department began investigating a report of a sexual assault that occurred at 1941 1/2 I St. #A. The 17-year-old victim said she was at the address the day of the assault spending the night. At one point during the evening, according to the victim’s statement, Dewitt showed up with some friends and furnished the victim and others with alcohol. The victim said she went to sleep on a futon in the living room and awoke to Dewitt fondling her. Dewitt then forcibly removed the victim’s clothing and sexually assaulted her, according to her statement. Since the time of the incident law enforcement has been unable to locate Dewitt.

Dewitt is a light-skinned black male adult standing 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and a piercing through his right nostril and the left side of his lower lip. Dewitt also has a tattoo of a rose on his right arm. He is homeless and is said to flop at various residences throughout the city of Sparks. Dewitt does not have a car but gets around town riding a tan BMX style bicycle. He is said to frequent the following areas in Sparks: Burgess Park, the 7-11 on Baring Boulevard, Reed High School, the 800 block of East York, 1000 block of Baywood Drive and the 1100 block of La Quinta.

Probable cause does exist for his arrest, according to a police statement.

Anyone who has information as to the whereabouts of Dewitt is asked to call the Sparks Police Department at 353-2231, Sparks detectives at 353-2225, Detective Steve Fiore at 353-2241 ext. 504 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
