Fatal accident 8 miles south of Carson City

CARSON CITY — On Thursday at 5:32 p.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover about 8 miles south of Carson City.

The preliminary crash investigation details indicate that the vehicle was traveling southbound on U.S. 395 just north of Airport Road in Douglas County. The Silver Ford Explorer, driven by Maria Santos Vargas, was traveling southbound when she lost control of the vehicle causing the vehicle to roll over. 

Felix Vargas, a 10-year-old male, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries and was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center by Care Flight. He later died from his injuries. 

There were a total of eight individuals in the explorer. Santos was transported via Care Flight to the Reno Renown Medical Center with non life threatening injuries. Two others were transported to the Carson Tahoe Hospital with non life threatening injuries. Everyone else in the Explorer was treated at the accident scene.
