RENO — Local HIV/AIDS organization Northern Nevada HOPES is starting a youth group specifically for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, questioning and straight allies between the ages of 14 and 18. The first meeting of the youth group will take place at 4 p.m. on July 20 in Suite 1A of the HOPES complex located at 580 W. Fifth St.

The LGBT youth group hopes to provide a safe place for young LGBT people in northern Nevada to gather. The group will be facilitated by Kayde Claunch, case manager, and Robert Harding, program coordinator, both of Northern Nevada HOPES. The youth will participate in fun activities including movie/game nights, as well as educational events such as LGBT guest speakers and life skills workshops.

Anyone interested in participating in the LGBT youth group is encouraged to attend the first meeting. The group will continue to meet every Wednesday afternoon from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

For more information, contact Claunch at or 997-7508.

Northern Nevada HOPES is a nonprofit clinical and social services organization based in Reno, serving as the a center for HIV/AIDS treatment and care in Nevada, except for the four counties surrounding the greater Las Vegas region.
