The race will consist of a half-mile swim, 14-mile bike ride and three-mile run. The competition will start and end just south of the Sutcliffe Marina.
For the past six years, the Reno Area Triathletes have been the race directors for the Pyramid Lake Triathlon and this year’s event drew a record 260 participants. All the proceeds from the race will be given back to the community, with nearly $65,000 going to local nonprofits over the past five years. In 2010, nearly $15,000 was given to Sierra Nevada Community Aquatics, Reno Water Polo, the McQueen High School band, The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, St. Vincent’s and The Reno Police Department’s Victims Service Unit.
Packet pick-up will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 4 at Eclipse Running Store, 6990 S McCarran Blvd. in Reno. Race day packet pick-up will be from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at the race site.
The Southwest Region of USAT is sponsoring a series of developmental sprint races to encourage youth (ages 13 to 15) and junior (ages 16 to 19) athletes to participate in triathlons. Each event winner will receive an award provided by the region, as well as ranking points. The last event of the season will crown the series champions. Pyramid Lake Sprint Triathlon is proud to be part of this race series.
Pyramid Lake is located 33 miles north of Sparks on State Route 445. From Interstate 80, take Pyramid Way exit #19 and proceed north 33 miles.
