SPARKS — On Thursday at about 9 p.m., Sparks Police Officers were dispatched to a report of a female that had entered an apartment, taken a minor child and tried to leave.
The parents and family of the child chased the suspect, Michelle Martin, 23, and retrieved the child.
Martin fled prior to police arrival. A short time later, Martin returned to the same apartment complex and again tried to abduct another child from a different apartment. The child was able to scratch Martin allowing the parents to retrieve him before Martin could get into her vehicle.
The victims described the suspect vehicle as an older gray, possibly Toyota, sedan. Again Martin fled just prior to police arrival.
At about 11 p.m., Sparks Police Dispatch received a call about a Gray Toyota Tercel that had rammed another citizen’s vehicle at Sullivan Lane and Greenbrae Drive.
The occupants of that victim vehicle began following the suspect vehicle until officers arrived on scene.
A high risk traffic stop was conducted and the driver and suspect, Martin, was detained.
The vehicle Martin was driving had been reported stolen out of the Reno Police Department.
Martin was positively identified by the parents of the minor children as the suspect that had tried to abduct their children. Martin was charged with two counts of second degree kidnapping, burglary, battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Sparks Police Department at 775-353-2231.
