RENO — On Wednesday at about 1 p.m., Reno police officers were dispatched to the area of First and Sierra streets for two subjects floating down the river screaming for help.
Reno Police Officer Schimmel was the first officer on scene and observed the subjects floating in the area of First and Lake streets. Both subjects grabbed onto a large tree limb.
As they began slipping back into the river, Schimmel used the tree limb and climbed into the river to hold onto subjects until further help arrived.
Both subjects were eventually pulled out by Reno police officers.
The subjects stated that they were rafting when the current became too strong and knocked them off the raft. Neither person could swim to the river bank based on the speed of the water.
