SPARKS — On July 2 at about 3 a.m., Sparks Police responded to a head-on collision in the area of Sparks Blvd. and O’Callaghan. Upon arrival, officers noticed that the suspect vehicle, a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo driven by William Meyerhoff, a Calif. resident, had been traveling the wrong way (south bound in the north bound lanes) of Sparks Blvd. The victim vehicle, a 1994 Jeep Wrangler driven by George Benda of Sparks, was struck head-on by the Rodeo.
The Sparks Fire Department was called on scene in order to extricate Benda. All occupants of both vehicles were transported to Renown Medical Center for medical treatment. The Sparks Police Major Accident Investigations Team was also called on scene in order to investigate the crash because of potential life threatening injuries to the occupants.
The extent of the injuries suffered by the occupants of either vehicle is unknown at this time. Although alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash, charges are pending for Meyerhoff.
