In conjunction with the Let’s Move Outside initiative started by first lady Michelle Obama, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), U.S. Forest Service, the city of Elko Recreation & Parks and Nevada Home Health Care are teaming up to provide a day of outdoor activities that are fun and easy to do. Nevada Home Health Care will be taking blood pressure, pulse and oxygen rates before and after the activities to show the benefits of exercise on the human body. The BLM and the U.S. Forest Service will have stations displaying outdoor activities that everyone can do in their own backyard or on public land.
Some of the activities include kite making, sports obstacle courses, bubble making, water games, badminton, croquet and more. Bring a picnic lunch and meet other members of the community who would like to move outside.
There will be two more Let’s Move Outside events through the summer. Join in the fun on Aug. 13 at the California Trail Center to explore activities of our ancestors and Sept. 17 will find us at Lamoille Canyon enjoying the beautiful views and hiking trails of Nevada’s Great Basin as well as learning basic survival skills.
