Everyone who wants to help seniors survive the summer heat is encouraged to join the KOLO “Fan Club” by dropping off new fans at the station or at the Washoe County Senior Services Center on Ninth Street.
“Last year, KOLO Fan Club members helped out over 250 local seniors who did not have a way to beat the heat,” Washoe County Senior Services Director Grady Tarbutton said in a press release. “Recipients are seniors age 60 and over who do not have air conditioning to help keep them comfortable during the hottest time of the summer months.”
Fans can be dropped off at KOLO TV, located at 4850 Ampere Drive in Reno, or Washoe County Senior Services, located at 1155 E. Ninth St. in Reno. Fans also can be picked up at Washoe County Senior Services. Drop off or pick up fans between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Only donations of new fans in the box will be accepted. To qualify for a fan, recipients must be 60 years of age or older. Seniors without air conditioning and those that have not previously participated in the program are a priority.
