RENO — A burglar hiding in a woman’s home attacked her Sunday afternoon.

At about 3 p.m., police officers responded to the 800 block of Wheeler Avenue on a report of a residential burglary where the suspect was armed with a knife.

Officers learned that the female victim returned home at about 2:30 p.m. and noticed a quilt on the floor of her bedroom closet that was out of place. The victim picked up the quilt, and was attacked by a suspect holding a kitchen knife who was hiding beneath the blanket. The victim fought with the suspect for about five minutes during which time he tried to choke her. The victim received minor scratches to her face during the struggle. The victim was able to convince the suspect to leave the residence and he ran out the back door.

While officers were processing the crime scene, a citizen notified them of a suspicious person matching the suspect description jumping a fence into a neighboring back yard on the other side of the block. Officers contacted the suspect, who had fresh injuries on his neck and hands, and were able to obtain a confession. This appears to be an isolated incident, however officers are conducting further research to see if this suspect is linked to any other crimes in the area.

Teodoro Macareno-Partida, 25, was charged with burglary with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon and battery.

Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the Reno Police Department Detective Division at 334-2115, or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
