RENO — Truckee Meadows Tomorrow (TMT) will hold its second quarter community forum on Wednesday focusing on legislative impacts to the region’s quality of life and the innovation needed to transform the community.

How will local governments continue to provide a social safety net and deliver services that improve the region, while continuing to cut expenditures and absorb more unfunded state programs? How can we work together as a community to innovate service delivery and become more economically competitive?

These are the types of questions that will be addressed.

Confirmed speakers include Brandon Rittiman of KUNR radio as the moderator; Beryl Love, editor of the Reno Gazette-Journal; and Joshua H. Silavent of the Daily Sparks Tribune.

There will be an informal networking reception, with light refreshments, to get the event started, followed by a moderated roundtable discussion followed by interactive questions and answers. Awards will be given to TMT’s Silver Star winners, which include:

• Voter turnout — KNPB Channel 5 Public Broadcasting

• Economic vitality — Dave Asher

• Affordable housing — Gary Longaker

• Community responsiveness to its most vulnerable populations — Family Resource Centers

• Community responsiveness to its most vulnerable populations — Soroptimist International of Truckee Meadows

The forum will take place from 5:15 to 7 p.m. at the KNPB Channel 5 Public Broadcasting office, located at 1670 N. Virginia St. on the UNR campus. Admission is free to TMT members and $10 for non-members. RSVP via TMT’s Facebook page.

All of TMT’s community forums address the 33 quality of life indicators, developed with extensive input from citizens throughout the community. TMT’s meetings are open to anyone interested.
