RENO — The Salvation Army is one of the nation’s original recyclers and will be among the organizations, agencies and businesses partnering with Harrah’s Reno for its second annual Green Fair this weekend.
The eco-friendly event is slated for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on Harrah’s Plaza in downtown Reno. The drive will collect gently used clothing and other household items. New school supplies also would be greatly appreciated, as The Salvation Army is providing backpacks of supplies, clothing, shoes and more to 500 students from needy families.
The household donations are recycled through the Army’s thrift store, providing free clothing to social service clients and a low-cost alternative to retail for low-income families.
Proceeds from the sale of these items support The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Program for men. The six-month substance abuse recovery program has been serving northern Nevada for 40 years.
