RENO — The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new year-round site at the Joe Mitchell Community Center on Tuesday.
The new year-round Boys & Girls Club site was made possible through a partnership between the club and Washoe County. The county was seeking to improve the function of the facility while recognizing the need for a positive place for kids in the Lemmon Valley community.
The opening of the site brings the total number of Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows sites to 20, serving an area that spans from Reno to Cold Springs to Fernley. The club is expected to surpass 10,000 members this year.
The new community center is located at 325 Patrician Drive, adjacent to Lemmon Valley Elementary School.
For several years the Boys & Girls Club has operated a summer camp at the Joe Mitchell Community Center. Now, as a year-round site, youth ages 6 to 12 can use the club before and after school as well for just the cost of a $20 annual membership.
