RENO — On July 4, Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary and Nature Center is celebrating its own 30th birthday and America’s 235th birthday.

The Ark shelters animals that cannot be released back into the wild and educates guests of all ages about the animals and their habitats. July is also Military Month at the Ark, offering free admission for all active and reserve personnel. Military family members will receive 50 percent off admission prices. Military I.D. is required.

Goodies and refreshments will be available for guests as they explore the facility. For the 30th birthday, Ark administrators hope guests will consider making a “birthday gift” contribution, as there are items very much in need. Animal keepers and educational guides will share stories and answer questions about the wild residents.

Hours on July 4 are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission costs $10 for children and seniors, $12 for adults and is free for guests age 2 and younger.
