RENO — On Friday detectives of the Regional Repeat Offender Program located a known parole absconder in the area of Sun Valley. Washoe County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect in the area of Dandini and Clear Acre Lane at 5:16 p.m. The suspect refused to stop and sped to the Highway 395 on ramp. The suspect continued to drive north on U.S. 395 at a high rate of speed while being monitored by the Sheriff’s Office’s RAVEN Helicopter.

The suspect drove into California, where a pursuit was initiated by the California Highway Patrol. The pursuit continued until the California Highway Patrol was able to deploy spike strips to disable the vehicle. The vehicle came to a stop in the area of the Susanville Airport, just south of the city limits at about 6:15 p.m. The suspect, Dale Voglaar, then exited the vehicle armed with a pocket knife and began to stab himself repeatedly in the chest and neck. Voglaar was subdued and taken into custody. Voglaar was transported to Lassen Community Hospital for treatment and eventually flown from Susanville to Renown Medical Center for treatment of his self-inflicted stab wounds.
