SPARKS — For the 30th consecutive year, the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada has awarded the city of Sparks a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

“For 30 years now, the city of Sparks has received the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting,” said Sparks City Manager Shaun Carey. “The mayor, City Council and Sparks city team are committed to spending public funds in the most efficient manner, as well as having a budget process that is transparent to the public and easy to understand.”

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential uses and user groups to read the CAFR.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving more than 17,500 government finance professionals throughout North America.
