RENO — Local PBS station KNPB Channel 5 has been honored with an Award of Distinction from the 2011 International Academy of Visual Arts Communicator Awards for the documentary “You’ll Always Be With Me.”

Recipients of the Award of Distinction are awarded the Silver Communicator Award statuette.

“You’ll Always Be With Me” profiles Solace Tree, a nonprofit organization in Reno that uses peer support activities to help children and young adults cope with the loss of a loved one and the grieving process.

The documentary features interviews with nationally renowned grief therapist Linda Goldman, along with the participants and volunteers of Solace Tree. It can be viewed anytime on watch.knpb.org.

“It’s great to be recognized for doing high-quality work, especially for a film with a sensitive subject matter,” said Dave Santina, KNPB’s VP of production. “It is a worthy addition to KNPB’s other award-winning productions of the past decade.”

The Communicator Awards is an international awards program recognizing creative excellence in communications disciplines. This year’s 17th annual competition reached more than 6,000 submissions from the United States and many foreign countries.
