The sheriff’s office investigated a report of a physical disturbance at 9:28 p.m. Tuesday, where shots had been reportedly discharged inside a residence.
Deputies met three victims who said they had been beaten with a shotgun by a Wadsworth resident named Dan Barchenger. Deputies were told that Barchenger entered an undisclosed residence on Olinghouse Road with a shotgun and became verbally abusive toward the residents’ unidentified guest. Barchenger fired one round through a window during the altercation.
All victims fled the residence but Barchenger followed them in his vehicle. A victim identified another man, Terry Barnes, to have been waiting outside the residence for Barchenger with a gun. All the victims were able to get to a safe location and lose sight of Barchenger’s vehicle. All victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Wednesday at about 10 a.m., the sheriff’s office received information that Barchenger and Barnes were seen in the area of Olinghouse Road. At 12:03 p.m., Barchenger and Barnes were taken into custody without incident. Barchenger has been charged with burglary with the use of a deadly weapon, three counts of battery with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm from a dwelling, two counts of child endangerment, ex-felon in possession of a firearm and false imprisonment with a weapon. His bail is set at $36,500. Barnes has been charged with ex-felon in possession of a firearm, aiding and abetting and possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription.
