SPARKS — On Sunday at 5 p.m., Sparks firefighters responded to a reported structure fire in the 3200 block of Segura Court.

The fire was found by the Sparks Police Department. Officers had noticed smoke coming from a home, and upon investigation found a garden hose leading inside through the front door. An adult male was at the end of the garden hose, attempting to extinguish a fire in the kitchen and trying to locate his cat.

Police evacuated the male from his residence and requested the fire department and REMSA to respond.

First fire companies on scene found the kitchen of the one-story home fully involved in fire. An attack hose line was deployed and an aggressive interior attack started. The Reno Fire Department responded with one engine which assisted with water supply, a back-up line and the initial back-up team to the attack team.

The occupant suffered minor smoke inhalation and was treated on scene by fire and REMSA personnel. He was not transported to the hospital. The occupant’s cat was found in good condition.

The fire was knocked down within 8 minutes after the arrival of the first fire companies. There was significant fire damage to the kitchen and heat damage throughout the rest of the home and it is not in a condition to be reoccupied.

The Red Cross responded to assist the occupant with lodging.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
