At about 7:30 p.m., Sparks police and fire personnel and medics responded to a report of an injury accident in the area of 12th and H streets. Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle strike a power pole and the vehicle was on fire. Upon arrival, SPD officers located Errol Shaw, 25, who had been driving the vehicle. Shaw was driving southbound on 12th Street when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a wood power pole, shearing the pole completely off at the ground level. Several electrical wires were on the ground as well. NVEnergy along with Sparks fire personnel secured the electrical lines and the vehicle. After an investigation it was learned that Shaw was riding in the vehicle with another adult passenger and a 5-month-old infant. Both of the vehicle’s airbags deployed and there were only minor injuries reported. The 5-month-old did not suffer any injuries. Shaw was arrested for felony child endangerment, and DUI second offense.
The child was released to her mother.
