DOUGLAS COUNTY — A Carson City man was killed Sunday morning when his car rolled over about six miles south of Gardnerville.

At 5:14 am, Nevada Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover crash on U.S. 395 near Courtland Lane. The preliminary investigation indicates that a silver 1998 Dodge Durango was speeding north on U.S. 395. The driver of the SUV, a 26-year-old man from Carson City, allowed his vehicle to drift off the right roadway edge when he over-corrected to the left and again to the right. The vehicle skidded off the road and fell 40 feet down an embankment where it rolled over multiple times, finally landing on its wheels.

The driver was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled over and he died at the scene. The passenger, a 34-year-old Reno resident, was seatbelted and remained inside the vehicle during the crash. He was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The names of both motorists will be available when family members have been notified.

Witnesses or anyone with information is encouraged to contact Trooper Robert Haigney at 775-689-682 regarding case number NHP-1105220105.
