ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Kevin Mulvey dealt seven scoreless innings, and the Aces bullpen preserved the shutout bid Saturday night, as Reno topped the Albuquerque Isotopes, 4-0, at Isotopes Park.

Mulvey (3-3) scattered seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts in a 98-pitch effort. After his exit, Jason Urquidez worked a scoreless eighth, and Kam Mickolio slammed the door in the ninth. The win marked Reno’s second shutout of the 2011 season and 16th in franchise history.

The Aces jumped ahead early on a two-run first-inning home run off the bat of Collin Cowgill, and as it would turn out, that was all the offense Reno would need. Cody Ransom hit a solo homer in the fourth, and Brandon Allen notched his 33rd RBI of the season with a two-out run-scoring double in the fifth. Evan Frey reached safely four times Saturday with two hits, two walks and two runs scored.

The loss fell to Albuquerque starter Mario Alvarez (0-1), who surrendered four runs on four hits over 4 2-3 innings of work. The Isotopes bullpen held Reno scoreless over the game’s final 4 1-3 frames.

The Aces and Isotopes close out the series on this afternoon at Isotopes Park. Right-hander Barry Enright (1-1, 6.55 ERA) toes the slab for Reno, while Albuquerque will counter with RHP John Ely (1-1, 4.36). First pitch is set for 12:35 p.m. PT.

The first-place Aces return home on Friday, May 27 for a four-game set against the Sacramento River Cats.
