RENO — On September 16, 2010, detectives assigned to the Reno Police Department’s Sex Crimes/Child Abuse Unit responded to a local hospital to investigate a possible sexual assault of a child. The female victim reported to investigating detectives that Thomas McNamara had been molesting her for about five years.

Detectives interviewed McNamara where he admitted to sexually assaulting the victim on at least two occasions. Detectives subsequently arrested McNamara for two counts of sexual assault of a child under 14 years of age. McNamara eventually pled guilty to one count and a sentencing date was set.

On May 19, McNamara, a career criminal and target of the Northern Nevada Repeat Offender Program, was sentenced in the 2nd Judicial District Court Department 3, the Honorable Jerome Polaha presiding.  Mr. McNamara has 4 prior felony convictions.  He was sentenced to Life in the Nevada Department of Corrections with parole eligibility after he serves a minimum of 25 years.
