SALT LAKE CITY — Kyler Newby dealt five scoreless frames Friday, scattering just three hits and no walks for his first-career Triple-A victory in a 3-0 Reno Aces win over the Salt Lake Bees in the series opener at Spring Mobile Ballpark.

The win snaps a season-long three-game losing streak for Reno and augments its lead to three games over the Bees in the Pacific North Division standings.

Newby (1-1) allowed a double and two singles Friday, but the Bees could not manufacture a run on the right-hander. After Newby’s exit, Jordan Norberto worked a scoreless sixth and Daniel Stange worked two scoreless frames. In the ninth, Kam Mickolio allowed two singles, but ended the proceedings after that, slamming the door on his second save of the season.

The hard-luck loss went to Bees starter Bear Bay (1-1), who allowed three runs on seven hits over 6 2-3 innings of work.

At the dish for Reno, Robby Hammock hit a solo homer in the seventh inning — his first of the season. Wily Mo Peña collected two hits, and Evan Frey singled twice for his first two career Triple-A hits.

The Aces and Bees will play a doubleheader Saturday at Spring Mobile Ballpark. Left-hander Zach Kroenke (3-0, 6.26 ERA) gets the ball for Reno in the opener, while Salt Lake will counter with RHP Eric Junge (0-2, 5.01 ERA). Southpaw Tom Layne (2-1, 8.24 ERA) will toe the slab in the nightcap for Reno, while Salt Lake’s starter is TBD. First pitch for the opener is set for 4:05 p.m. PT, and all of the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM in Reno or online at www.RenoAces.com.

Reno returns home on Tuesday, May 10, for an eight-game homestand against the Omaha Storm Chasers and Iowa Cubs.
