LAS VEGAS—Brandon Allen put the Aces ahead early with a two-run single in the first, but the Las Vegas 51s took control the rest of the way Thursday night, topping the Reno Aces, 5-3, in the series finale at Cashman Field.

The loss marks Reno’s first three-game losing streak of the season and its first series defeat of the season. With the 51s now staked to a 3-1 lead, the two clubs will meet 12 more times in the third chapter of the Silver State Diamond Challenge.

Las Vegas answered Reno’s two-run first inning with two of its own in the home half of the frame. After the 51s took a 3-2 lead, Mark Hallberg knotted the game for Reno with a run-scoring single in the fourth. The game would stay that way until the eighth, when an RBI triple and a suicide squeeze plated the go-ahead runs for Las Vegas.

Aces starter Kevin Mulvey took a no decision, despite holding Las Vegas to three runs—two earned—on seven hits over six innings of work. Ron Mahay (0-2) was responsible for both eighth-inning runs and took the loss.

The win went to 51s reliever Winston Abreu (2-2), who worked a scoreless eighth, and the save went to Wil Ledezma, who worked a spotless ninth.

Tony Abreu doubled twice, and Wily Mo Peña added a single and a double in a seven-hit Aces effort. Konrad Schmidt went 0-for-3 on the evening, halting his career-best 14-game hitting streak.

The Aces now head to Salt Lake City for a five-game set against the Bees at Spring Mobile Ballpark.

In Friday’s opener, RHP Kyler Newby (0-1, 7.63 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Salt Lake will counter with RHP Bear Bay (1-0, 6.41 ERA). First pitch is set for 5:35 p.m. PT, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM in Reno or online at www.RenoAces.com.

Reno returns home on Tuesday, May 10, for an eight-game homestand against the Omaha Storm Chasers and Iowa Cubs. Military, police and fire personnel have the chance to pick-up a complimentary ticket to any game on the homestand in person at the Aces Ballpark Box Office with a government-issued ID. All other tickets can be purchased at the Aces Ballpark Box Office, online at www.RenoAces.com or by phone at (775) 334-7000.
