SPARKS — On Saturday the Sparks Police Department continued its efforts to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors by conducting age verification compliance checks at 10 local businesses that sell alcoholic beverages.

Sparks police officers, with the assistance of two volunteers who were under 21 years of age, attempted to purchase alcoholic beverages from those 10 establishments. Five of the businesses sold alcohol to the minor.

Businesses not in compliance were: Pizza Hut, 632 E. Prater Way; Pizza Plus, 2211 Oddie Blvd.; Top Chinese Buffet, 2010 Oddie Blvd.; Yellow Sub, 920 Holman Way; and Wing Stop, 2868 N. McCarran Blvd.

Businesses in compliance were: Dotty’s Casino, 2256 Oddie Blvd.; Outer Limits Bar, 404 N. McCarran Blvd.; Vista Mart, 2995 Vista Blvd.; Donley’s Irish Pub, 2174 Greenbrae Drive; and Sinclair Gas & Convenience, 11 E. Victorian Ave.

A citation was issued to the employees who sold alcohol to a minor. The fine for this offense is a minimum of $632. Such an offense also can jeopardize the establishment’s license to sell alcohol.

Citizens are asked to report the sales of alcohol to minors, possession of alcohol by minors or other violations of the laws regarding the use of alcohol by minors to their local police agency.
