The Spanish Springs track team saw seven school records fall thanks to a stellar performance Friday at the Chico Invitational in northern California.

Josh Briggs broke the Cougars school record in both the 1,600 meters and the 800m, running the races in 4:34.51 and 1:56.96, good for fifth and third in the competitive invite.

His teammate, Jake Flemming, ran the 3,200m in 10:08, another school record. That won the race.

On the girls side, Katie Peters turned the same trick as Briggs, setting new SSHS marks in the 1,600m and 800m. She ran the races in 5:23.36 and 2:23.91 respectively to finish fifth and eighth.

SSHS senior Anna Preciado also set a school record by finishing third in the 3,200m with a time of 11:46.23.

The seventh and final school record to fall came in the girls high jump where sophomore Lyndsey Anderson cleared 5-feet even. That was good for third in the event.

“It was a little cloudy and overcast, but perfect for running conditions. I’m very proud of the kids,” Cougars track coach Pat McGuire said. “They really stepped up.
