RENO — Sierra Fire Protection District (SFPD) is holding an evacuation drill on April 30 for the areas of the Galena Forest Estates, St. James Village, Rolling Hills, Monteux, Arrowcreek and Rock Farm Road.

This area has more than 3,700 residents off the Mt. Rose Highway and Joy Lake Road. At 9:30 a.m. the evacuation drill of the Mt. Rose area will start. The drill will have a reported wildland fire in the St. James Village area moving toward structures off Joy Lake Road. SFPD and Washoe County Emergency Management will activate the county’s reverse 911 to call the residents telling them to evacuate to Galena High School. Teams also will be going door to door informing the residents of the evacuation.

From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday there will be training classes for the drill and fire season at the Sierra Fire Protection District Station #39, located at 4000 Joy Lake Road, in Galena. Sierra Fire also will be holding classes from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 26 and 28 at the UNR Redfield Campus in Room 227. The classes are open to all Washoe County residents.
