Reno has now won five-straight games, is off to the best start in franchise history and can claim a series sweep in the finale on Thursday.
Making a spot start in the Aces rotation, Layne (1-0) scattered three runs—two earned—on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks. The left-hander helped his cause at the plate, as well, doubling home Reno’s first run in the second inning. Out of the Aces bullpen, Jordan Norberto worked two scoreless frames, and Rafael Rodriguez held the Sky Sox to one run over the game’s final two innings.
At the dish for Reno, Tony Abreu and David Winfree each hit two-run home runs. With a homer and double, Abreu extended his hitting streak to six games. Konrad Schmidt doubled twice and scored a run in a 3-for-5 effort for the Aces.
The loss fell to Sky Sox reliever Bruce Billings (1-2), who surrendered four runs—two earned—on three hits in one inning of work.

RHP Kevin Mulvey (0-1, 18.00 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Colorado Springs will counter with RHP Clayton Mortensen (0-1, 24.00 ERA). First pitch is set for 10:05 a.m. PT, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM or by visiting www.RenoAces.com.
