Freshman Gabby Williams, sophomores Adriana Newell, Tiare Fonoimoana, Cherish Navarroza, junior Nyasha LeSure and senior Amanda Sharkey will compete at the 44th annual Arcadia Invitational high school track and field meet Friday and Saturday.
The meet is held at Arcadia High School, which is 17 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
Historically, the Arcadia Invitational is the nation’s premier high school track and field showcase and has produced 24 national records as well as 125 athletes who have gone on to compete in the Olympic Games.
Last year, just under 4,000 athletes competed from more than 600 high schools in the event.
Williams and Newell will have a busy weekend. Williams is competing in the 100m hurdles, high jump, 4x100m relay, 4x200m relay and 4x400m relay. Newell is scheduled for four events: the 100-meter dash, 4x100m relay, 4x200m relay and 4x400m relay.
Sharkey will be a part of those three Raider relays, while Fonoimoana will be on the 4x200m and 4x400m relays and Navarroza will be the fourth member of the 4x100m relay squad.
LeSure will join Williams in the high jump.
