Sentencing of habitual criminal

RENO — On Tuesday, James Laren Brooks was convicted and sentenced to a prison term of five to 15 years by Judge Connie Steinheimer on charges relating to drug possession and drug sales.

The conviction and sentence was the result of a several-month investigation by the Sparks Police Department Crime Suppression Unit as well as the Northern Nevada Repeat Offender Program.

Brooks, who before the sentencing had five previous felony convictions for crimes consisting of burglary, drug possession and weapons charges, will be eligible for parole after serving a minimum of four years in the Nevada State Prison.
