All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go adoption promotion
Black dogs and cats wait in the shelter for loving homes longer than pets of other colors. Experts debate the reasons; perhaps people pass them by because they do not stand out visually. Whatever the reason, they tend to be overlooked. However, owners of black pets report enjoying their special intelligence, elegant beauty and unique personalities.
The All Dressed Up, Nowhere to Go adoption promotion at Nevada Humane Society was designed to help draw attention to the many wonderful black and black/white dogs and cats awaiting loving homes.
Tuxedo (black and white) and all-black pets can be adopted for specially reduced fees: $15 for adult cats and $25 for adult dogs. Adult cats of other colors can be adopted for $25 and dogs for $40. These fees exclude kittens and puppies under 4 months of age and specially priced dogs.
All dogs and cats are spayed and neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before being adopted. These services would normally cost more than $200.
“We currently have about 200 black or mostly black dogs and cats, said Denise Stevens, operations director for Nevada Humane Society. “These beautiful animals come in many sizes, shapes and personalities. Traditionally, black pets get overlooked by potential adopters for no good reason, and we want to give them that extra chance they deserve.”
Visit the Nevada Humane Society at 2825 Longley Lane in Reno today through Tuesday to take advantage of the reduced fees and give these deserving animals a home and family of their own. The shelter is open for adoptions Sunday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, call 856-2000.
