RENO — On Friday, a Washoe County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy responded to a local hospital to investigate a report of child abuse involving a 4-month-old baby with a broken right humerus bone.

Upon arrival, the deputy found that the mother of the 4-month-old brought her child to the hospital with severe trauma to the right arm. Detectives responded and met with both parents. Upon further investigation, detectives determined that the 4-month-old had been injured by his mother, Araseli Esparza-Porras.

Esparza-Porras was arrested and booked into the Washoe County jail for child abuse causing substantial bodily harm with bail set at $3,500.

The infant was released into the custody of the Washoe County Child Protective Services.
