•In the same tourney, Spanish Springs also split Friday's action. The Cougars beat Oakmont 7-2, but fell to nationally-ranked Pleasant Grove, 9-3 in the nightcap.
Senior ace pitcher Danica Arterburn went five innings against Oakmont, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out eight to pick up the win.
She benefited from several teammates performing well at the plate. Bella Rovens led the way, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Dani Smith knocked in three runs by going 2-for-2. She also scored two runs. Kayla Arterburn contributed two hits and two runs in the win.
However, Pleasant Grove proved to be too tough as it scored six runs in the third and was never threatened.
The Cougars ended the shutout bid by pushing across three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Sydney Darby drove in two runs on two hits and Kaytlin Ripa was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Spanish Springs (2-1) is back on the field today at 3:15 p.m. against Cordova and will play again at 5 p.m. but the opponent is unknown.
