Attempted home, car burglary

SPARKS — On Wednesday at 5:07 p.m., Sparks police officers responded to the 1900 block of Fourth Street on a report of a residential burglary in progress. The victim reported he was at home when an unidentified man broke out the glass in the sliding door at the rear of the residence in an attempt to gain entry to the residence. The victim confronted the suspect who then fled. 

While officers were attempting to locate the suspect they received a report that in the 100 block of East Quail Street. The residents said they had a person detained for breaking into a number of vehicles. When officers arrived on scene the found the residents were holding 19-year-old Ty Cross. 

Witnesses reported that Cross had been seen burglarizing four vehicles in the area. When the witnesses confronted Cross he tried to flee on foot but was tackled and detained by one of the residents. Officers were able to determine that Cross also was responsible for the attempted residential burglary on Fourth Street. Officers also learned that Cross had been consuming alcohol and was in possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Cross was booked into the Washoe County jail for attempted burglary, attempted home invasion, vehicle burglary (four counts), possession of drug paraphernalia and minor in possession of alcohol.
