RENO — A 27-year-old woman, identified as Reno resident Tami Jane Sheldon, has died after being hit by a school bus on Jan. 24. An investigation revealed that Sheldon was not in a crosswalk at the time of the accident.

The accident happened at 6:50 a.m. on Jan. 24. Reno police officers responded to the intersection of Fourth Street and Arlington Avenue on a report of a pedestrian being hit by a school bus.

Upon arrival, officers learned that Sheldon was walking westbound across Arlington Avenue when a school bus that had turned southbound onto Arlington from West Fourth Street struck her. She was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Traffic investigators believe there might have been several vehicles stopped at a red light when the accident occurred and are requesting that anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the Reno Police Department’s Traffic Division at 334-2141 or contact Secret Witness at 322-4900. Neither speed or alcohol are believed to be factors in this case.
