RENO — The United States Marshals Service (USMS) led Fugitive Task Force announced the arrest of Roberto Luarca-Rodriguez on Tuesday night in Reno. Luarca-Rodriguez was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant alleging eight counts of lewd acts upon a child younger than 14 years old, oral copulation with a child younger than 10 years old and continuous sexual abuse. Bail for these charges has been set at more than $9 million.

On Jan. 6, the USMS Nevada Fugitive Investigative Strike Team (FIST) was asked to assist in the investigation to find and apprehend Luarco-Rodriguez by the Los Angeles Police Department. The intensive investigation led task force personnel to conduct surveillance in the area near Grove Street and Wrondel Way on Monday. Lucia-Rodriguez was identified by task force personnel and arrested without incident. He was booked into the Washoe County jail.

“We are committed to protecting the children of our community from sex offenders,” said Nevada U.S. Marshal Christopher Hoye. “We will continue to aggressively pursue and arrest these fugitives.”

In 2010, the Reno FIST task force arrested 244 individuals wanted on state, local and federal felony charges.
