Chairman John Breternitz spoke on behalf of the commission in honoring Raggio’s unprecedented 38 years in the Senate and also his time as Washoe County District Attorney.
Raggio retired from office Jan. 15 due to health reasons. County commissioners appointed Republican Greg Brower, a former assemblyman from Reno and U.S. Attorney for Nevada, to fill Raggio’s seat on Jan. 18.
As examples of Raggio’s legislative successes, Breternitz cited the retired senator’s important work in establishing the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, providing direction for regional planning governance in the Truckee Meadows and strident support for standards and accountability in the state’s educational system.
Raggio thanked the commission for the respect shown him and also thanked his constituents for trusting in his service and dedication.
