At 8:39 a.m., Sparks police responded to 1260 El Rancho Drive #65A on the report of a woman screaming. When officers arrived they could hear a female voice inside the residence screaming for help. As the officers approached, the front door opened and the woman fell into the doorway. She had multiple stab wounds to her head and chest and was bleeding profusely.
Directly behind the victim was Alan Brubaker, 42, who had blood all over his clothing and hands. Officers saw a large butcher style knife on the couch in the living room.
Officers determined that Brubaker and victim lived at the residence together and were in an argument that turned physical. During the fight, Brubaker retrieved a knife and stabbed the woman multiple times. While Brubaker was stabbing her he told her he was going to kill her.
The woman, who was not identified by police, sustained a deep stab wound to the left side of her chest that collapsed her left lung, She also had multiple stab wounds to the left side of her head, sustained superficial lacerations to her neck and her right eye was completely shut due to being struck with a fist. She was taken to the hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Brubaker was arrested and during an interview admitted to being angry with the victim and stabbing her multiple times. He was later arrested for attempted murder.
