Officers from the Reno and Sparks police departments along with deputies from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol participated in the roadblock from 5 to 11 p.m. During the six-hour event, 1,843 vehicles were screened with 31 of those directed into the secondary screening area. Of those 31 motorists, nine were arrested for DUI, four of which were for DUI drugs.
The Northern Nevada DUI Task Force provided the funds to allow the agencies to join forces to conduct the checkpoint. An estimated 3,000 motorists and passengers were contacted passing through the Kietzke Lane checkpoint. Many motorists also were cited for other violations ranging from displaying fictitious plates, driver’s license violations, expired registration, driving without insurance, equipment violations, seat belt violations and failure to stop for a stop sign.
Officers issued 27 warnings and a total of 116 citations.
