At approximately 10:42 p.m. Saturday, a Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation, which was seen in the area of Sun Valley Boulevard and West Gepford Parkway in Sun Valley. The vehicle, which was occupied by two subjects, pulled into the parking lot of Hobey’s Casino and the passenger got out. The vehicle accelerated out of the Hobey’s parking lot and headed towards Chocolate Drive, still failing to yield to the deputy.
The fleeing vehicle went off road at a high rate of speed and the deputy terminated the pursuit. After a few minutes, the deputy located the vehicle and driver on Chocolate Drive near West Seventh Avenue stuck in the gully. The deputy ordered the suspect to stop but he drove the vehicle out of the gully and fled the scene once again.
Later, a Reno police officer located the vehicle at Panther Valley and North Virginia Street traveling south toward downtown Reno. The suspect drove off road and parked in an area near Talus Way. The officer chased the suspect on foot and a perimeter was set up in the area on North Virginia Street, just south of Talus Way.
A sheriff’s office K9 team was called to the incident. Within five minutes the K9 team located foot tracks heading south just below the railroad tracks. Within nine minutes of arrival, the K9 team apprehended the fleeing subject, identified as 19-year-old Robert Jake Allen of Reno, who was attempting to hide in dense brush. Allen immediately surrendered to the K9 team.
Allen told officers he fled because of a “serious” warrant for his arrest and did not want to go to prison. Allen told the sheriff’s deputy that he had recently smoked methamphetamine.
Allen was charged with failing to stop at a stop sign, eluding a police officer, speeding, reckless driving, driving under the influence of drugs, driving with a revoked license, a criminal contempt warrant out of the Second Judicial District Court and a contempt of court warrant out of the Sparks Justice court. Allen’s bail was set at $32,990.
