Police catch, convict repeat offenders

RENO — The Northern Nevada Repeat Offender Program (ROP) reported one arrest and one sentencing last week.

On Thursday, ROP detectives concluded a three-week investigation into the criminal activities of ROP target John Douglas McNair. Reno officers searched McNair’s residence and collected evidence related to the charges against him, including ex-felon in possession of a firearm, burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell. Two other people who live with McNair also were arrested and charged for possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.

McNair was booked into the Washoe County Jail. His bail has been set at $25,000.

In a separate case, Joseph Nunez (aka Joseph Schultz) was sentenced Thursday to the maximum of six to 15 years with a one to three-year enhancement for use of a deadly weapon for armed robbery.

Nunez was convicted for the Feb. 7 armed robbery of the the 7-11 convenience store at 1680 Silverada Blvd. Nunez has been a target of the ROP since 1992. He has previous felony convictions for burglary, robbery and armed robbery. Nunez eventually pleaded guilty to armed robbery with a deadly weapon enhancement.
