SPARKS — The Sparks Hometowne Christmas Parade, the 24th annual holiday celebration, begins at 1 p.m. and will conclude around 3 p.m.

Greg von Schottenstein, Sparks special events supervisor, said he is expecting a large crowd of people to line Victorian Avenue.

“Typically we have about 15,000 people line the parade route, that’s our estimate,” von Schottenstein said. “If they want to have a choice of spot, we encourage them to arrive early, dress warmly and bring some chairs.”

There also will be other activities.

“Food and beverages will be offered along the parade route,” von Schottenstein said. “There are some arts and crafts and charities and different booths and things they will see lined along the sidewalks. A bit of something for everybody.”

Road closures because of the parade include:

• Interstate 80 east and westbound off ramps at Pyramid Way will be closed at noon. Motorists can use McCarran Boulevard as an alternate route.

• The intersection at Pyramid Way and Victorian Avenue also will be closed at noon.

• Victorian Avenue between Pyramid Way and 11th Street will be closed at 11:30 a.m.

• The road closures are in effect until the conclusion of the parade at about 3 p.m.

The parade can be viewed on Victorian Avenue in downtown Sparks between Pyramid Way and 14th Street. Pedestrian traffic east of Pyramid Way on Victorian Avenue is prohibited because of road construction. Accommodations for the disabled to view the parade will be located at Victorian Avenue and 10th Street.

Parking is available at the C Street garage and theater garage as well as street parking. The parking lot at the northeast corner of 14th and Victorian Avenue will be closed for parade de-staging.
