<a href=>Photo by Chase Silver - Reno photographer Chase Silver shot Friday's fireworks from the Sparks industrial area. A July 4th photo contest is being sponsored by John Ascuaga's Nugget.
The fireworks are over and the last remnants of Star Spangled Sparks are being packed away until next year. But John Ascuaga's Nugget is searching for a few good images to remember the event.

The Nugget's Fourth of July photo contest is free and open to any amateur photographer over 18 years old. The contest is searching for not only images of the fireworks, but also any moving photos of the event in Victorian Square.

All entries must be submitted by July 11.

The photographer who submits the "best in show" photo will receive a night out at the Nugget including dinner, a show and room for two. Category winners will receive dinner for two at Restaurante Orozko.

The three categories are fireworks, people and Victorian Square scenes, activities and entertainment.

Community members are asked to vote for their favorite photos on the Nugget's Web site,, starting July 15. The photo contest ends July 22 and the winners will be announced on Aug. 1.

Entries should be e-mailed to and should have the words "2008 Nugget photo contest" in the subject line of the e-mail. Photos submitted must be at least 1024 by 768 pixels and may be no larger than 5 MB in file size and must be in .JPG format.

The following information should be included in the body of the e-mail: contestant's name, address and phone number, where the photo was taken and a short description of the photo.

No hard copies of photos will be accepted.

Contestants can only enter one photo per category.

"A panel of John Ascuaga’s Nugget judges will choose the finalists in each category based on artistry and how they capture the essence of Star Spangled Sparks," Michael Traum, a Nugget spokesman, said. "We'll post the finalists on by July 15 for public voting. The photo with the highest average score in each category wins."

By submitting photos, contestants give John Ascuaga’s Nugget permission to use them for promotional purposes. This permission includes, but is not limited to, publication in printed materials, electronic media, television broadcasts, Web sites or the company's intranet.

"Contestants will not be compensated for such use," Traum said. "However, where reasonable, we will give you credit for the photos."
