RENO — The Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) has received several complaints alleging that Nicholas “Nick” Jansing is committing fraud by selling solar energy systems and promising customers rebates and government grants once they make a deposit.

NSCB criminal investigators currently are investigating three cases in the Reno and Carson City areas, where homeowners paid about $10,000 in deposits to Jansing. Allegedly, customers are asked to apply for unsecured loans for the down payment on the solar energy systems. Once the loan is approved, Jansing allegedly collects money in the form of a payment authorization from the lender and then fails to deliver any part of the solar system.

Jansing allegedly is representing himself as an employee of American Sun & Solar, which is a licensed contractor in Reno.

The company has denied that Jansing is an employee and has posted its own “fraud alert” on its website, www.americansunsolar.com, warning homeowners of Jansing’s activities.

The company states:

“An unlicensed individual has been doing business as American Sun & Solar and collecting deposits fraudulently, promising rebates and government grants, and once the deposit is received, no service or product is ever provided. Please be careful not to confuse us with an unlicensed individual representing himself with either a mail box located in Truckee, CA (Donner Pass Road) or Reno (Damonte Ranch Road.). There is no California or Nevada organization with this company’s name operating legitimately other than the American Sun & Solar LLC located in Sparks, Nevada or Sacramento, California. Check your local Secretary of State or Contractors’ Board before writing a check to any business or contractor! If you feel you may be a victim of fraud with this individual, please contact us at: (916) 548-4282, so we can refer you to the proper authorities.”

Homeowners are encouraged to contact the Reno office of the NSCB Criminal Investigations Unit at 688-1141, ext. 7884, if they have information on Jansing’s whereabouts or if they have had contact with him.
