RENO — Wednesday morning at 8:55 a.m. Reno police received several reports of an argument resulting in shots being fired at the Zephyr Point apartments, located at 10640 N. McCarran Blvd.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the people involved in the dispute and learned that resident Crystal R. Mendez, 26, discovered some items missing from her apartment and thought her upstairs neighbors might have been responsible for stealing the items. Mendez then armed herself with a steak knife and a pistol and went to confront her neighbors. She contacted the neighbors outside of their third floor apartment, and they denied stealing from her. Mendez then struck the wall with the steak knife while demanding her property back. She then fired two shots from her handgun away from her neighbors and toward a hillside in back of the apartment complex, again while demanding information about her missing property. One of the shots struck the ceiling above the stairway landing and the other struck the stairway railing. No one was injured by the gunfire.

Mendez was arrested for discharging a firearm where a person may be endangered. Her bail is $3,000.
