Gomez’s knowing eyes wisely predict all the love he has to share. He is a happy cat, satisfied spending time with you playing or maybe just enjoying a quiet moment together. If you are busy, Gomez is just fine spending time on his own, napping in a warm spot in the sun. Can you make room in your heart and home for this loving, easygoing guy? Call the Nevada Humane Society at 856-2000.

Bring a pet home for the holidays

The Nevada Humane Society (NHS) is asking for the help of the community in reaching the goal of finding homes for 1,200 pets during the Home 4 the Holidays Pet Adoption Drive, through Jan. 2.

“No one wants to think of a homeless dog or cat spending the holidays in the shelter,” NHS Executive Director Bonney Brown said. “Through the Home 4 the Holidays Adoption Drive, we are asking the community to help these deserving pets by adopting or encouraging friends and family members to adopt a pet. Last year, we found homes for 1,000 pets during the five-week adoption drive. This year our goal is to find homes for 1,200 pets, and with so many more pets in need this year, adoptions are critically needed. Together, we can make sure that all homeless pets in our community are truly Home 4 the Holidays.”

Pet adopters will spin the Holiday Wheel of FURtune, courtesy of Red Carpet Events and Design, and save money on pet adoptions, win prizes or even receive a free pet adoption (excluding a few specially priced dogs). Adoption fees for Home for the Holidays are $45 for adult dogs, $25 for adult cats and $50 for kittens under 4 months of age.  Anyone who adopts a pet by 3 p.m. on Dec. 24 will be entered into a raffle to win a big-screen TV or a kid’s Baja Motorsports BA50 50cc ATV.

Every dog, cat, and kitten at NHS is spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. These services normally cost more than $200.

Home 4 the Holidays is a nationwide pet adoption drive now in its 12th year. It was created to get animals out of shelters and into good homes during this season of giving and love. NHS is one of thousands of participating animal shelters across the country.

“The holidays are about sharing time with family and friends and for many of us who love animals, this includes the four-legged family members,” said Diane Blankenburg, NHS community programs director.

The Nevada Humane Society is open for adoptions seven days a week (except for Thanksgiving and Christmas day) from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and an hour earlier at 10 a.m. on Saturdays. The adoption center is located at 2825 Longley Lane in Reno.
